Dr. Welsch is from Greenfield, Iowa, a small town southwest of Des Moines. He played college basketball at Grand View University, where he graduated with degrees in Biology and Biochemistry. He received his optometric education from Indiana University. He is currently practicing in West Des Moines at Ashworth Vision Clinic, a primary care private practice. He puts a special emphasis on treating dry eye and the fitting of specialty contacts.

Dr. Welsch is a passionate gardener. You’ll find him every morning in his backyard, receiving his daily dose of dirt therapy. He enjoys the challenge of rehabilitating soil food webs and restoring the natural nutrient flow within yards and gardens.

He still gets out and plays basketball a few times a week and enjoys dinking a pickleball around with his wife. He loves board game nights.

He and his wife have two hairless cats and are expecting their first child at the turn of the new year.
