Randall “Randy” Sakamoto, OD, PhD, FAAO
Dr. Sakamoto is originally from Chicago, Illinois. Graduating from the University of Michigan, he went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry. After living and working in Japan for 17 years, one of his accomplishments was to receive a Ph.D. from the School of Medicine, Tokyo Women’s Medical College. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.). He has been in private practice in Honolulu, Hawaii since 2003. He remains a consultant and works in Professional Relation and Medical Affairs for Menicon Co., Ltd. In 2018 he was a recipient of the Legends Award from the AOA’s Cornea and Contact Lens Section. He also achieved Diplomate status in the Academy’s Cornea, Contact Lens and Refractive Technologies Section in 2013. Dr. Sakamoto was worked with Menicon from 1988 and has been with the company for the past 33 years. He is an internationally acclaimed speaker and has spoken extensively on corneal physiology, contact lenses, and OrthoK. Illinois College of Optometry. In April 2000, he received a Ph.D. in Medicine from the Tokyo Women’s Medical College in Tokyo, Japan. He has practiced in a variety of locations: Chicago, Honolulu, San Jose, and most notably for 17 years in Tokyo, Japan. He returned to Honolulu in 2003 and began this private practice in 2008. In addition to private practice, Dr. Sakamoto is a consultant for Menicon. He enjoys golfing, surfing, and spending time with his wife and their doggie.
